Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: An Initiative for Pollution/Garbage Free Diwali this Year

Diwali is a festival of light of hope and victory of truth over evil. It is the most important festival of India celebrated by the people of all religions. But for the past few decades, it has become a festival of unnecessary noise and smoke spreading pollution. Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, there was a need for changing the mind-set of the people regarding celebrating Diwali.

The Supreme Court of India has banned selling and burning fire-crackers in Delhi and NCR. Seeing the deteriorating condition of the atmosphere of Delhi, it had become a necessary step to take on. Delhi and nearby places have shown a very disappointing air quality index in recent years. This is what made the judiciary take this decision.

The burning of fire-crackers creates noise pollution and damages the hearing capability of our ears. Its greatest impact falls on the children and infants. Also, the smoke from fire-crackers remains in the atmosphere for a long time and damages our lungs. It also affects the life-span of birds and animals. Even, many of their species have become extinct.

Apart from Diwali, the burning of fire-crackers should also be banned in Marriages, New Year celebrations, and other such occasions. Burning of firecrackers on any occasion is harmful to all of us and our mother earth.
