Swami Vivekananda Paragraph 1 (100 words)

Narendranath Dutta, who later came to be known as Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863 to a Bengali family in Calcutta. His father and grandfather along with his mother possessed rich spiritual, religious and educational values which were evidently passed on to him. He was a curious child and had an inclination towards Spirituality at a very young age. He travelled far and wide spreading the message of Hinduism to the world outside India. As a result of his teachings and works, he is regarded as an inspiration and idol to the youth of the country till date.


 

Swami Vivekananda Paragraph 2 (150 words)

Swami Vivekananda was born as Narendranath Dutta on 12 January 1863 to Vishwanath Dutta and Bhubaneswari Devi in Calcutta. His father was an attorney in the High court of Calcutta and his grandfather a Sanskrit scholar. His family was among the respected ones for learning and generosity during those times.

He had a curious mind and constantly refused to accept the superstitions prevailing in those times. At a very tender age he was introduced to spirituality and he instantly developed a liking and interest for the same. Growing up he became well known for his empathetic feelings for the poor of the society and his eccentric knowledge and the ability to learn.

On 4th July 1902, after a normal day of teaching Sanskrit and spiritualism to his students and his daily part of meditation, Swami Vivekananda died due to a vein outburst and was cremated at the same site as his mentor Ramakrishna.

Education of Swami Vivekananda

When it came to education and learning, Swami Vivekananda was an eccentric person. He studied in various different institutions and also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts. Narendranath Dutta, also known as Swami Vivekananda, was one of the most learned and respected personalities not only in India but around the world. He carried the message of spiritualism and Hinduism far and wide along with the culture and heritage of India. He belonged to an upper middle class traditional Hindu family and had indulged in learning about scriptures and religious texts since childhood. He was an exceptionally bright child with a hunger for knowledge.

Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda

Vivekananda was a man of great self discipline and principles. He had strong opinions on nationalism and he strongly believed that a person can improve himself spiritually and knowledge wise for the betterment of his own life and country. His strong vision and determination for the upliftment of the country after the colonial rule led him to great deal of travelling across oceans with the sole motive of spreading the pure ideas of Indian culture, legacy and spirituality. Contribution to the Parliament of World Religions

The Parliament of World Religions came to existence in 1893 as a platform of interreligious dialogues. Leaders from various religions representing different countries gathered here at certain intervals. On the opening of the Parliament of World Religions, Swami Vivekananda was present there and represented Hinduism with a speech which was centred around his ideas of nationalism, religion and spirituality. He received a standing ovation from thousands of people sitting there. He recited verses from Indian scriptures and explained those verses.

He has enhanced the understanding of people in India and also across the world on the spiritual front with his efforts and knowledge. He offers a vast contribution to the efficient spread of the heritage and culture of India.

Journey to the West

Swami Vivekananda’s first visit to the west was to Chicago in 1893 where he attended the Parliament of World Religions. After his appearance at the parliament, he started travelling across various places in U.S. giving lectures and seminars on his philosophy of life, spiritualism and yoga. His journey to the west helped people there to identify and learn about the rich legacy India has. He constantly talked about the importance of the development of citizens of a country for his ideas of nationalism to flourish. He strongly believed that a man’s greatest service to god was in helping the poor and underprivileged people rather than wasting ones time in pleasing the idols.

While in India, he spoke at various events on social issues prevailing at those times. He was a person with great empathy for the poor and ones who required help.

Ramakrishna Mission

The Ramakrishna mission was established in 1897 and named after Ramakrishna Paramhansa by his disciple Swami Vivekananda. The prime objective of this mission was to promote peace and harmony among different religions. Swami Vivekananda being an extremely generous and sensible human being initiated this mission under which various activities were conducted such as medical services, education for underprivileged, post disaster relief and many more.

The 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated with great enthusiasm and love by people in India and also in various other parts of the world on 12th January 2013. Many events were organized by Ramakrishna Mission organization and many others in honour of the man who enlightened millions of minds with his teachings and life. A film was also made on Vivekananda’s life as a tribute to his achievements and works. Many government organizations and youth groups celebrated this day.

Swami Vivekananda has imparted his knowledge to the world in many ways such as lectures, books, etc. He was fluent in English and Bengali and possessed exceptional oratory skills. He also had artistic skills and constantly indulged himself in writing poems and various songs. Vivekananda always gave lectures in a simple and lucid language. He believed that language should be used in such a way that the listeners can understand it with ease. Besides lectures and speeches, many of his works were published during his lifetime. This included publications on Vedanta Philosophy, Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga and more.
