Holidays in 2015

As India is an independent and republic country, having its own constitution and authority to take decisions and manage the country. It is a country of diverse culture, tradition, religion, language with the fervent society. People in this country are free to celebrate to their own festivals and religious rituals according to their culture, religion and tradition. Government of India has declared national, states and regions level holiday to all the religious rituals and festivals for the people of diverse religions.

National holidays celebrations in the country are Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. Different states and regions of the country celebrate variety of local festivals depends on the religious demographics. Some of the religious festivals such as Hindu festivals (Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra), Jain festivals (Mahavir Jayanti, Paryushan), Islamic festivals (Eid ul-Fitr, Mawlid an-Nabi, Muharram, Eid al-Adha), Sikh festivals (Vaisakhi, Guru Nanak Jayanti), Buddhist festivals (Losar, Buddha Purnima) and Christian festivals (Christmas, Easter Sunday and Good Friday) are celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country.

These religious festivals are declared as the annual holidays which are generally observed by the state and local governments. In addition to the religious festivals, various official holidays, ethnic, and traditional holidays such as the New Year celebration, legends birthday anniversary celebration and etc are also celebrated according to the calendar.
